Francis Scott Key
As a lawyer, Francis Scott Key went to Fort McHenry (at Maryland) to negotiate the release of a prisoner and witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy during the War of 1812.  He then wrote a poem of “Defence of Fort McHenry”, which later became Star Spangled Banner.

Thomas Morgan
Thomas Morgan was awarded Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1933.  Using Drosophila (fruit fly) as the model organism, Morgan established the role chromosome plays in hereditary.  Morgan is the great-grand son of Francis Scott Key from his mother’s side.
