I also like the “I’ll be there” scene in the movie The Grapes of Wrath. While bidding farewell to his mom, Tom Joad (Henry Fonda) utters the memorable “monologue”, thanks to Steinbeck’s powerful writing. Steinbeck would be pleased that Henry Fonda is his Tom Joad.
Ma Joad (played by Jane Darrell) hardly says anything, but her eyes gave you a heavy heart for a loving, worrying mother. I think Jane Darrell is the lady who fainted upon seeing the newly widowed Scarlett wants to dance with Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind.Tom Joad's (Henry Fonda's) "I will be there" speech at the end of The Grapes of Wrath.
