Blooming Siberian iris

With the size of our garden, one has to look around carefully, lest one would miss the exotic beauty here and there.  Here are some Siberian iris; some of them standing out among the pinkies.

It is easy for “I” to love KATY

Spring KATY tulips have since faded away; marigold will take over for the summer season.  I took this photo before planting “I” so I can make this post to make a point of saying it is easy for “I” to love KATY.  After planting the “heart” shape it will be easy to plant an “I”.   The project is still ongoing.

Azaleas in bloom, in flame and in glory

Azaleas (杜鵑花) in our front yard is almost in full bloom, in flame and in glory.  Azaleas is known as “thinking of home bush” (思鄉 樹).  It may be from Li-Bai (李白)’s poem.

蜀國曾聞子規鳥，
宣城還見杜鵑花。
一叫一迴腸一斷，
三春三月憶三巴。

A song for Mother Day

Taiwanese Americans Association (TAA of Pittsburgh) had a Mother Day banquet on May 11^th; thanks to the arrangement by Hsiang-Jung and Maggie, we had a very entertaining and touching program.  One of the songs was Celine Dion’s “Goodbye’s The Saddest Word”, which is quite appropriate for Mother Day.

I should have posted it on Mother Day, but after working in the garden for more than 9 hours; I could hardly have time for facebooking.  I also designed something in the garden for the mother (Katy); not implemented yet.  I do not just give roses, a dozen or two; that will be too easy.  Mine is more elaborate and sentimental.

We watch the weather forecast for planting in the garden the way Ike did for the D-Day landing; both are strategic plannings.  Ike was worried about the weather for D-Day 21 months before the event; he wrote to Patton on September 5, 1942, “I am searching the army to find the most capable chaplain to assure a fairly decent break in the weather when the big day comes.”

Planting after Memorial Day would be safe in Western Pennsylvania.  We’ve been watching the long term weather forecast and noticed that temperature would be above 40ºF during the month of May.  Our Taiwan pumpkin (台灣南瓜) has been venturing out to the garden one by one.

We let them stay outside day and night for a few days before actual moving out; they appeared very happy and healthy as they thought they’re outdoor camping (露營) overnight.
