Anvil chorus in Verdi’s Il Trovatore

One of the famous Verdi’s choruses is Anvil in Il Trovatore.  It depicts a day in Gypsy life: hard work begins at dawn, the gypsy ladies pour a drink to cheer. The best part is when the hammers hit the anvils with the arms “melodiously” swinging.

It has nothing to do with the plot, I think Verdi composes this chorus to enrich the music.  This Metropolitan Opera production is the best in my view.
