第二春 (“the second spring”) for Dahlia (大理花)

9/1/12
Dahlia (大理花) came to our garden in May.  They have since settled down in the rose garden and have kept the low profile, trying not to compete with the roses (不與玫瑰爭妍).  However, they can no longer hold back; they’re in full bloom again; it must be their “second spring” (第二春).

It is not entirely appropriate to use “第二春” here as 第二春 is a Chinese idiom meaning “falling in love or marry” again.

Dahlia is native to Mexico and it was not introduced into Europe until late 18th century, no wonder Shakespeare never mentioned it in his plays.
