Speaking of the force of the plant growth, the first leaf
(called cotyledon) has to crack open the hard seed coat. If you were to try to open a seed with your
hands, then you would know what force involved.
The first leaf is actually part of the embryo inside
the seed; it can carry out photosynthesis once it emerges from soil and comes
out of the seed coat. I am still trying
to find out the difference between the first leaf and all the other leaves.
