George Washington and smallpox vaccine

An article in today (March 5) JAMA Dermatology saying George Washington advocated smallpox vaccine and was a public health activist.  I had a letter-to-the-editor talking about this that was published at the Observer-Reporter exactly five years ago today (March 5, 2010).

It was indeed a less well known fact; many physicians couldn’t believe it when I said it at Sermo then.  Some researched it and told me much more about how that happened.  At Sermo if one tells something few know, one ends up learning more.
