President Donald Trump’s victory speech this morning (around
3 AM) was very conciliatory and said everything a President-elect should
say. He even used Lincoln’s
language. He said,
“Now
it’s time for America to bind
the wounds of division; have to get together. To all Republicans and
Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come
together as one united people.”
Lincoln ended his Second Inaugural Address [March 4, 1865,
forty some days before the assassination] with,
“With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the
right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we
are in, to bind up the
nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for
his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and
lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”
