White pinky in our garden—affectionate remembrance to Grandma Greenlee

The photo of dark red pinkies (a type of carnation) is from last year; they came back in full bloom in white, except a very small portion.  I am still trying to figure out the scientific basis of this color changing; Katy said it signifies the affectionate remembrance of Grandma Greenlee, who passed away last October.  Dark red carnation expresses deep/passionate love whereas white one signifies purity and affectionate remembrance.

Symbolism of flowers can be universal or ethnic/regional/national.  In Taiwan one wears red carnation on Mother’s Day if one has a living mother and white carnation if one’s mother has passed away.
