The garden work has been hectic the past three weeks, not
only planting the vines, vegetables and flowers, but also updating the
infrastructure (reconstruction of the walk ways and setting up the irrigation
system, etc.) Garden work has consumed all my spare time that
I have practically neglected all my Facebook friends and my email and LINE
group. It is not a beautiful
garden yet, but beauty is in the making.
Not everything we planted survived and thrived, but we gardeners believe
in tomorrow. We have “faith”, like Emily
Dickinson said that we are “closer to God in a garden than any place on this
earth.”
The criteria of being selected as the residents in our
garden, the flowers have to be colorful with luster, long-lasting blooming for
the entire summer and are not “spoiled”, requiring less attention and care.
Most of the flowers we planted so far are: geranium, salvia,
petunia, celosia, begonia and impatien.
These are just representatives; we previously also planted dahlia,
lantana, dianthus, snapdragon, and marigold, etc.
There are many varieties of each flower; we have “pink
passion” and “summer madness” (I call it “mid-summer madness”) petunia, or is
it geranium? It doesn’t matter. Let’s borrow from the Bard:
What’s in a name? that which we call a petunia
By any other name would look as pretty.
